Class Description

Hatha Yoga — All Levels Welcome

Have you always wanted to practice yoga but hesitated because you thought it looked too difficult? If you are seeking a yoga class that will demystify yoga and teach the basics in a supportive and fun environment, then this class is for you! We will start out with warm-ups and proceed to step-by-step asana instruction, providing you with an active yet gentle practice that focuses on breath work, strengthening of the core and back, stretching, toning, and relaxation. This class will help you open up areas of tightness, such as hips and shoulders, and get you moving with basic Sun Salutations sequences—always with suggestions for modifications. If you are feeling stressed out, you will leave this class feeling refreshed and energized.

New to yoga? Check out the Yoga 101 articles on The Daily Downard Dog.

What to Bring

New students, please arrive 5-15 minutes early to prepare for class. Requests, concerns and questions will be happily addressed.

Bring your own sunscreen and yoga mat or beach towel, but we do have a few complimentary mats for students who need one. However, if you use our mats, please wipe them down (with wipes provided) after use. You should also bring an old sheet or a beach towel to place under your yoga mat to aid in keeping sand off your mat. You will also want to bring sunglasses or a hat for sunny days and also water for after class. No shoes needed, we will practice barefoot.

Weather

Updates are posted on the Daily Downward Dog Facebook Page and Twitter @downwarddog up to an hour before class on questionable weather days.  Class is cancelled when temperature is below 45. If it is raining or there is a chance of rain, classes at The Firefly Beach Resort will be held under the covered pavilion (except on the rare occasion of high winds along with the rain).

About Maria Santoferraro

Maria is a graduate of Marietta College and spent the past 25 years in the crazy corporate world. Needing a detox from an unhealthy lifestyle, boatloads of stress, and an aching back, she sought out a healthier lifestyle and went back to the one form of exercise that has always brought her joy and relief—yoga!

The practice of yoga has helped Maria heal her back from the chronic pain she experienced as a result of being diagnosed with scoliosis as a teenager. But more than relieving stress and feeling better both physically and spiritually, it has brought her a new balanced way of living that has enhanced her well-being. Maria’s passion for yoga has led her to gain her 200-hour teaching certification from Try4Life and also blossomed into this blog. In this past year, Maria has been fortunate to study with Max Strom, Rodney Yee, Kathryn Budig, and Cora Wen and will continue her yoga education and journey for the rest of her life.

Maria loves to keep her classes lighthearted and fun while helping to demystify yoga and educate her students on the benefits of yoga both on and off the mat. With a variety of uplifting class themes, she keeps her classes fresh and creative. Maria’s goal is to share the benefits of yoga with anyone willing to open their hearts and give it a try.

I would love to do beach yoga and wish someone would have a class in Cleveland. I was excited to see an Ohio class but your location is not feasible for Cleveland residents. Maybe some time you could do a weekend workshop on the beach here or convince some teacher you know in this area to start a class up..it boggles the mind that this is not more popular in my city.

Nick – I do know of a class that is held around Rocky River (west side of CLE) and I’ll email you the details. If I hear of anything else I will let you know. Would love to get something set up around Cleveland – will see what I can do, but my summer schedule in Vermilion keeps me busy.
