Hanging Ten is known as one of the most impressive and iconic stunts one can perform on a surfboard. Master this maneuver – letting a wave cover the back of the surfboard, then walking to the front of the board and hanging all ten toes over the nose of the board – and you get an incredible surfing high. It’s the big kahuna, a total feeling of bliss.
When I perch my behind on the edge of my Manduka meditation cushion, let all ten of my toes dangle off, close my eyes, and allow myself to let go into meditation, this for me is the ultimate rush. It’s my version of hanging ten, of finding my bliss. Taking that meditation experience to the beach is even better, so I’m bringing the beach to you with my brand new Hang Ten Meditation videos.
In celebration of the launch of Hang Ten Meditation, the awesome folks at Manduka are providing me with one of their peaceinpeaceout meditation cushions to giveaway to one lucky Daily Downward Dog reader.
I can’t emphasize enough how important it is to sit comfortably with a straight spine during meditation. A big factor keeping many people from being able to meditate is their inability to sit comfortably. Having a cushion to provide hip and back support is key, and I’m a big fan of Manduka’s peaceinpeaceout cushions because they are both supportive and comfy.
The coolest thing about these cushions is you can customize them with just the right amount of buckwheat hulls to give the support and lift your body needs. The outside fabric cover – made of quick-drying, odor-resistant material – zips open so you can remove the buckwheat hulls. What are those, exactly? They are the husks of a fruit, not a grain or wheat-related source, so if you have wheat allergies you should not have a problem using this product.
There is also a groovy little handle on the cushion, making it easy to grab and take your cushion wherever you want to Hang Ten and meditate. If you want to take the cushion to the beach, no worries! The cover zips off and can be machine washed.
The size of the cushion is 15” in diameter by 3.5” in height, and it weighs 4.2 pounds with all the buckwheat hulls intact.

Meditation can be rewarding in so many healthy ways. When you can sit comfortably, you will be able to sit for longer periods of time, and that is when your meditation practice will truly blossom. A towel, pillow, yoga block, or Manduka peaceinpeaceout meditation cushion can provide the support you need.
Happy meditating!

That’s the only thing I haven’t invested in yet, a nice cushion!! I started following and liked Hang Ten a while ago and never realized there are VIDEOS! I’m excited 🙂 Will make my way over there after work. Can’t wait to see you again starting next week! 🙂
Since I can’t actually sit in easy seat or lotus because of a bad hip, I wonder if the meditation cushion would help with that? I wouldn’t exactly say it’s my “toes” that we be hanging over the edge though. ha..ha..
Currently, my favorite meditation pose is supported baddha konasana whereupon my dogs will lay on each side of me and rest. I like to put my hands in their fur and find my inner peace. 🙂
Love the FB page and the videos were inspirational! <3
My favorite way to meditate is in the morning, outside, while watching the sun rise. I never wake up that early, though 🙂
Follow Manduka on Facebook and heading there now to follow Hang Ten Meditation! Thanks for the opportunity….this cushion look great! Just what I need!
Can the meditation videos be watched from an iPad? I’m having technical difficulties….
Marianne – Thanks for checking out the videos. Let me look into this and I’ll be in touch.
I am a fan of both pages on Facebook and enjoyed checking out the Hang Ten videos. I will share on my pages! I enjoy meditating outdoors whenever I am able, by closing my eyes and tuning in to the sound of waves, of birds, of wind; to the sound of my own breath and heart. Meditation has helped me calm my mind and body from severe panic attacks. It would be nice to have a portable cushion to comfortably rest my bum as I practice. =)
Super great giveaway! I could use something like this. Already following Manduka on Twitter and Facebook.
Just discovered both of you and am now following. Loving both! Thanks!
I already follow manduka, I will make sure my Facebook Page follows Hang Ten Meditaton! I am just beginning a meditation practice. I am starting with 5 minutes every morning around the same time if possible. I sit crossed legged on my couch pillows. A real cushion would be nice! haha. This week I am beginning to experiment with Mudras. I believe a Mudra a week is the plan for now. Thanks for the contest! 🙂
Hi Rachelle –
Woo hoo on starting that meditation practice! Keep it going 🙂
Follow Mandela on FB and now Hang ten meditation on FB & Twitter.
Will check the videos, I’m sure they are very inspiring.
Looking forward to try the meditation cushion <3
Hahaha meant Manduka! Auto spelling helps? LOL
High Five & Two Thumbs Up to DDD for weaving these ideas, props & organizations together! As a yoga student and teacher I dig my Manduka mat & remain inspired by their ‘how do we help you practice?” fb posts. The Hang10 Meditation videos are short & sweet & just what this world needs! I’ve posted on our Sangha fb timeline to share. I’ve found bliss in my sit on the ground & on a SUP board but most recently I Hang10 with a foam noodle under my arms in a therapy pool. A couple of my clients spend their days in a wheelchair so when we lower into the pool a new freedom occurs. We rest dropping our sit bones toward the bottom of the pool and envision space between each vertebrae. Slow breathing exercises & taking time to pause all motion brings such big grins! This is the best work I’ve ever done. Meditation is a great Rx! Thanks for your inspiration! PeaceInPeaceOut looks awesome!
KP –
Thank you so much for sharing the link to the Hang Ten meditation videos on your facebook page – I really appreciate it. The pool meditation does sound like incredible work and I am going to try that out the next time I get in a pool!
Namaste,
Maria
