Spoiler alert: If you are coming to my New Year’s Eve yoga class and don’t want to know the ending yet, please don’t read this until after Friday.

I’ve had a few requests to share my playlist for my New Year’s Eve yoga class, so here it is.

I am really enjoying teaching yoga, and a big part of the fun is getting to plan the music I’ll play during each class. I feel a little like a karmic DJ, trying to find the right mood, message, and even the right beat to go with the flow of the class. In this new “job” of mine, I get to combine my love of music with my passion for yoga. How cool is that?!

So, needless to say, I was up for the challenge of putting together a kick-ass New Year’s playlist. I had to throw in the prerequisite songs like “New Year’s Day” by U2 and James Taylor’s version of “Auld Lang Syne,” but I also threw in a few surprises like, “Rhythm of Love,” a cool, folksy ballad by The Womack Family Band (I just recently saw them in person and was so inspired, I had to add them to the playlist).  A few of the songs are about the passing of time, so we can reflect positively on what transpired in 2010, and quite a few songs convey the sense of optimism and hope that I have for the coming year.  In 2011 I’m hoping we’ll get a little sun, have a lot of good nights, accomplish whatever we imagine, and make that change.

I decided to share one of the videos from the playlist and had a hard time picking which one to feature but finally decided on “Glow” by Donovan Frankenreiter. If you are cold and tired of snow, this video will warm you up with shots of Donovan hanging ten on a surfboard somewhere warm and tropical.

I’m really hoping my playlist will make my students glow, and here’s hoping your 2011 is filled with a special glow as well!
