Join Maria Santoferraro, E-RYT 500 of the Daily Downward Dog for a joyous week in the Italian countryside filled with yoga, meditation, sunshine, scrumptious food, and sightseeing. Your home base for this Italian yoga retreat is Villa Daniela Grossi. With the lovely Lucca countryside as its backdrop, this villa is its own gem among olive groves and vineyards. Villa Daniela Grossi features a private fenced swimming pool, extensive grounds, and wonderful views. Add a little touch of history to the mix, as this self-catering accommodation near Lucca was once part of an old convent, and it is just a short walk into the village of Segromigno in Monte.

The week includes many excursions where you will be immersed in Italian culture, history, food, and adventure. As the schedule permits in the mornings, there will be joy-infused yoga practice overlooking the Italian countryside and in the afternoon’s restorative yoga sessions.

  • Lucca Guided Tour accompanied with a tasting of typical food and beverage from Lucca. Experience the famous procession of Santa Croce and dinner.
  • A day of shopping, sightseeing, and relaxing at the beach in Forte dei Marmi. Light dinner included that evening at villa.
  • Pisa and Certosa di Calci Guided Tour and lunch.
  • Cooking class held at the Villa where retreat guests will learn how to prepare typical Tuscany dishes and tricks from the Chef – lunch and dinner included on this day of the retreat
  • Pistoia Guided Tour and lunch followed by a wine tasting and dinner at the villa.
  • Guided tour to the Chianti region and a visit to San Gimignano to a vineyard for a wine tasting, truffle hunt, and lunch in the vineyard. A pizza party will be held on our return to villa.
  • A private classical music concert will be held in the villa chapel followed by a gala dinner prepared by the Chef.
  • Included meals: Six dinners, five lunches, seven breakfasts

Excursions

Pisa & Certosa di Calci

We’ll begin the day visiting Certosa di Calci with a guided tour of the Carthusian Monastery, a hidden jewel nestled in the Gracious Valley of Pisa, founded in 1366 it is one of the most interesting and special monuments in this area. After lunch, we will head towards Pisa to see the many beautiful and interesting monuments including the leaning tower, the museum of San Matteo, and the precious little church of la Spina.

Chianti Region

The Chianti area in Tuscany is one of the most beautiful in the whole region, as well as the most well known and appreciated by visitors around the world. San Gimignano, a small walled village about halfway between Florence and Siena, is famous for its fascinating medieval architecture and towers that rise above all the other buildings offering an impressive view of the city from the surrounding valley. We will visit a vineyard and enjoy a wine tasting and truffle hunt as well as lunch.

Lucca

Lucca, the city of one hundred churches, is a beautiful city rich in history and the home of Puccini. Our day there will include a three-hour guided walking tour that will tell you about legends and traditions that are not found in tour books, and also show you the best food-shops and typical recipes in the area as well as the opportunity to taste some local wine, cheese, and meats. There will be time to explore Lucca with a walk along the old city walls which offers panoramic views of the city.
 
The day we visit Lucca is a very special day when the famous procession of Santa Croce is held and the city is magically lit up with candle lights. We will get to experience this beautiful procession and dinner at a local trattoria.
 
 
 
 

Pistoia

Pistoia a quaint little city between Lucca and Florence, preserves a medieval center. Famous for its beautiful nurseries, which ship plants all over the world, and for becoming the recent European Capital of Culture. We will enjoy discovering together the treasures of this city with a local guide and lunch in a typical Tuscany trattoria.

Forte dei Marmi

Forte dei Marmi is a seaside town in Tuscany, Italy, known for its beaches. This excursion is the perfect day for shopping and enjoying the sights in Forte dei Marmi, or relaxing at the beach.

Villa Daniela Grossi

The villa has 10 bedrooms, which are frescoed and luxuriously furnished with period pieces. The rooms have splendid views of either the Italian gardens or the surrounding countryside and its vineyards and olive trees. Each room has heating and air conditioning which can be regulated individually, a safe, free wireless Internet connection, some rooms have a small refrigerator, TV with CD player, and satellite channel reception. A hairdryer is provided in every bathroom. A practical towel kit including a soft toweling robe, swimming towel, and terry towel slippers is available for all guests. All the rooms can be reached both by a comfortable lift and by easy stairs.

Deluxe PUCCINI Suite (Sold Out): 1 King Bed (can be split into two twin beds), ensuite bathroom, A splendid suite in the old part of the Villa, with a balcony overlooking the beautiful Italian garden. This room has a walk-in closet, small living room with a desk. || Double Occupancy $2,985 per person

Deposit and Final Payment Policy

Step 1) A $500 deposit is required per person to reserve your retreat space and is non-refundable. Please click the button below to sign up. You will be prompted to select your room type and payment option (credit card or bank withdrawal) or contact Maria about paying via check. Payment plans are available upon request.

Step 2) When making your reservation you will be required to accept the terms and conditions, provide dietary restrictions, and once your travel arrival/departure logistics are available you will need to provide them. 

Step 3) Final payment is due on May 10, 2022.  For new reservations made after May 10, the entire balance is due when the reservation is made.

All payments are non-refundable.

Cancellation Policy  

For all MariaMedia LLC retreats, if force majeure (e.g. pandemic, natural disasters, travel restrictions, etc.) causes the retreat to be canceled, we will offer a rescheduled date for the retreat. In this case, we will not refund payments when it is due to causes beyond our control. If the rescheduled retreat date does not work for you, full or partial credit (not a refund) towards another MariaMedia LLC retreat at any destination may be possible.  

If you cancel and find someone to take your spot and they pay in full (transferring your spot), we will refund your money.

Florence a City to Explore

Either before or after the retreat, plan to spend a few days on your own visiting Florence. With its abundance of timeless art, rustic Tuscan cuisine, incredible boutique shopping, and mesmerizing views at every turn, the city of Florence is nothing short of spectacular. Known worldwide as the birthplace of the Renaissance, Florence embodies the spirit of ancient Italy and has managed to preserve it for nearly 700 years. Top places to visit include the Uffizi Gallery, Ponte Vecchio, Boboli gardens, and the Duomo di Firenze.
