“Undisturbed calmness of mind is attained by cultivating friendliness toward the happy, compassion for the unhappy, delight in the virtuous, and indifference toward the wicked.”
—From the yoga sutras of Patañjali
Wow, that’s a lot of stuff to do! I wouldn’t mind just having a few uninterrupted hours of calm each day, and to do so, all I need to have is indifference toward the wicked? Just kidding, I get the point. Friendliness, compassion, delight, and indifference—they all go hand in hand. These are things you can’t do a little of and expect to get a little bit back; you’ve got to jump in and give them all a try.
This is a practice I need to take off the mat and apply in my daily life.
