If someone asked you point-blank if you have inner peace, would you be able to answer yes? Do you even have a clue as to what inner peace is all about? Would anyone mind if I break out in a spontaneous modified version of Chicago’s, “Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is” and changing it to “Does Anybody Really Know What Inner Peace Is”?

I know that I’ve got peace inside me, but the poor gal spends most of her time defending her honor and diligently fighting for valuable real estate with several other unwelcome inner residents—namely fear, stress, pride, and worry. Luckily, yoga and the practice of pranayama (breathing) and meditation help me restore my peace and joy, but I can tell you that some days, I could really use a strong dose of peace to calm me down.

You may not know this, but inner peace is just like any other physical or mental condition and has its own set of symptoms and methods to either eradicate or help it blossom. I got to searching the Internet and happened to find the really cool Web site of Sarah Partridge at www.livelifelightly.co.uk, which had a list of the signs and symptoms of inner peace. Unfortunately, the original author of this piece is unknown, so I can’t give a proper shout-out to this genius, but I did want to share this awesome list. I’m happy to report that on most days, I have many of these symptoms, but there are several that I need to go out and catch. Unlike other illnesses, the more of these conditions you meet, the healthier you will be spiritually.

Symptoms of Inner Peace

Be on the lookout for symptoms of inner peace. The hearts of a great many have already been exposed to inner peace and it is possible that people everywhere could come down with it in epidemic proportions. This could pose a serious threat to what has, up to now, been a fairly stable condition of conflict in the world.

Some signs and symptoms of inner peace:

Author: Saskia Davis

A tendency to think and act spontaneously rather than on fears based on past experience.

An unmistakable ability to enjoy each moment.

A loss of interest in judging other people.

A loss of interest in interpreting the actions of others.

A loss of interest in conflict.

A loss of the ability to worry. (This is a very serious symptom.)

Frequent, overwhelming episodes of appreciation.

Contented feelings of connectedness with others and nature.

Frequent attacks of smiling.

An increasing tendency to let things happen rather than make them happen.

An increased susceptibility to the love extended by others as well as the uncontrollable urge to love them back.

This list is getting printed out and taped to my office wall to serve as a constant reminder of how to achieve inner peace. I’m sure there are different symptoms all throughout the world, so please share any symptoms you may know about.
